On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, celebrated every June 7th and this year focusing on the role of science and prevention to ensure safe food, Grupo Leche Celta emphasizes its commitment to food safety through a transversal management model, based on operational excellence and the involvement of all its teams. From its production centers in Pontedeume, Ávila, and Meruelo, the company promotes a quality culture that combines prevention, traceability, and continuous improvement.
Quality at Grupo Leche Celta is a shared responsibility and is addressed from within, involving all departments. Therefore, it has implemented a safety culture plan that reinforces good practices through continuous training, rigorous document control, and early risk detection, following the principles of the PDCA improvement cycle. In 2024, a total of 40 internal and external audits were conducted at its centers, all with satisfactory results, whose recommendations are already integrated into the improvement plans for the next fiscal year.
Grupo Leche Celta has an Integrated Management System endorsed by international certifications that guarantee the quality, sustainability, and food safety of all its processes. Among them, the IFS certification stands out as the most demanding reference in food safety at the European level. In November 2024, after adapting to the new IFSv8 version and expanding its scope with new products, the company achieved a higher level of compliance (>95%), thus consolidating its commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Additionally, the group’s plants are certified under standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, EMAS, Animal Welfare Welfair, among others. The Pontedeume plant also has exclusive certifications such as the Organic Product seal, Pasture Milk, Rainforest Alliance, and the SAE certificate, essential for exporting products outside the European Union.
This commitment to excellence is also reflected in traceability. Thanks to the SAP digital system, Leche Celta can track each batch from its origin on the farm to the point of sale. Comprehensive control that not only guarantees food safety but also reinforces consumer transparency and trust.
